Ashes fans get connected
Cricket fans attending next year’s Ashes showdown between England and Australia in July will be able to take advantage of newly installed Wi-Fi around the ground.
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), owners of Lord’s cricket ground, have signed a five-year deal with BSkyB-owned Wi-Fi provider The Cloud to connect each stand of the 28,500-capacity stadium.
Users will have to register with The Cloud to use its Wi-Fi services at Lord’s, but will not have to pay.
"The availability of high-speed Wi-Fi adds to the experience of visiting Lord’s," said Derek Brewer, chief executive and secretary of the MCC.
"Spectators spend a whole day with us, so having secure access to the Internet means that they can post photos and videos of their experience, as well as keeping up to speed with commentary and analysis of the match online.
The Cloud provides Wi-Fi at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and the motor racing circuit at Silverstone.
Australian Sports Tours is offering match packages and escorted tours to the five Test matches in July and August although several of the escorted tours have already sold out.
