Australian wife carrying champions go to Finland
Australian Wife Carrying Championship Winners Anthony Partridge and Angela Moore are on the way to Finland to take part in the annual Wife Carrying World Championships in Sonkajarvi, but before they go, they are appearing on Channel 9 Today Show, tomorrow, Friday 21 June at 7.15am to talk about their win and up and coming trip to Finland.
Australia staged its annual wife carrying championship on 10 March during the annual CountryFest in Singleton, New South Wales and the winners Anthony and Angela won the trip to Finland to compete for Australia in the Wife Carrying World Championship, which has been staged in Sonkajärvi since 1992.
The Wife Carrying World Championship in Sonkajärvi Finland takes place on July 7 and over 20 couples have currently signed in representing, Australia, USA, UK, Switzerland, Japan and Finland.
Sonkajarvi is located 500km from the capital Helsinki in Eastern part of Finland.
The travel arrangements for the winning couple from Australia will be co-sponsored by the Finnish Tourist Board and Finnair.
The event is only one of many unique events staged in Finland each year.
