Australia’s Golden Outback……………………….
A report by ABC says Tourism body Australia’s Golden Outback says it wants to target event tourism in the coming 12 months.
The group held its annual general meeting this week in Kalgoorlie Boulder, in southern Western Australia, where it was revealed visitor numbers to the region have increased from 176,000 last year to 182,000 this year.
Chief executive officer Jac Eerbeek says the increase can be attributed to Australia’s Golden Outback featuring heavily in state newspapers and magazines.
He says it now wants to link tourism campaigns with events being held in the towns and cities in the region.
“Things like the Racing Round are absolute mega events where the town is just fully booked, so we would love to be involved in more events, but specifically new events that would create extra business at times when people really need the business, that would be fabulous,” he said.
