Australia’s longest ski season draws to a close.
After a season with Australia’s most reliable snow, Perisher Blue’s ski lifts will be the last to close in the 2006 ski season which officially closes this last weekend.
Good early snowfalls in May and June had the industry buzzing with anticipation for what was hoped to be a bumper year, only to be let down by weather patterns producing mostly dry, cloudless skies through July, August and September, however, all was not lost, with two good powder dumps recorded during the season, making for excellent skiing in early to late August.
For the majority of the season, the four resorts of Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Blue Cow and Guthega were interlinked, offering guests the most terrain available in Australia.
Australia’s biggest and by far the best terrain park, the PSP Slopestyle, on Front Valley opened at the start of June and stayed open until the very last day and complimenting this, the PSP Superpipe, Australia’s only competition standard halfpipe in 2006 ensured free riders would not miss out on outstanding features and facilities.
Perisher Blue successfully conducted every scheduled event receiving many accolades and a glut of media exposure and the Spring Carnival, now in its second year was a hit with guests and is growing into a more substantial resort activity and a highlight on the calendar.
Peter Brulisauer, CEO said “What made the season such a success though, were the efforts of Perisher Blue’s staff, especially Mountain Operations, with advances in snowmaking techniques, grooming methods including Perisher Blue’s three state of the art winch grooming machines, snow farming and the commitment of all staff all making the very best of the conditions thrown at them together with excellent guest service delivering a great result for many happy guests.”
Keep an eye on Perisher Blue’s website www.perisherblue.com.au during the off-season for announcements and what’s new for next year.
