Avalanche deaths spark warnings to skiers
Police have issued a warning to skiers in the Alps region to stay on marked slopes only, following a series of avalanches.
In one incident, a 44-year-old man and his 11-year-old daughter died in an avalanche in the Val-d’Isere region.
According to reports, the pair, from Paris, were on a ski runway that had been closed due to the risk of an avalanche.
Rescue services are warning skiers to stay on marked slopes only.
In a separate incident, a group of hikers went missing following an avalanche in the Swiss canton of Valais. Two were injured.
A level-three avalanche warning has been issued for the area, indicating there is considerable risk of further avalanches.
