UK: Sales “capped” in case of technical problems on legendary jet

British Airways is “capping” the number of seats it sells on Concorde flights because of concerns over the “robustness” of the service.

According to a report in the Guardian, the airline is only selling 50 per cent of seats so it is easier to lay on alternatives if there are technical problems with the supersonic jet. A spokesman reportedly told the newspaper that there have been very low passenger numbers on Concorde recently; some flights across the Atlantic have had just “a few dozen” people on board.

British Airways has taken the step because it only has two Concordes in service at present; three are not in service because they are undergoing work to have reinforced cockpit doors fitted; under new anti-terror rules the work must be completed this week. Last week British Airways admitted cancelling eight services between 31 March and 13 April, while the work is completed.
