BA suspends winter service to Lima
The UK travel industry is being urged to continue to support Peru year-round following British Airways’ decision to suspend its winter flights to the capital Lima.
The Latin American Travel Association said it had been reassured that BA will continue to operate flights to Lima between May and September, the most popular months for travel to Peru.
The best months for trekking to the iconic Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, Peru’s biggest tourist attraction, are from June to September.
The summer in Peru falls between December and March, which is also the wet season.
“That said, the UK winter offers the chance to discover Peru away from the crowds and therefore LATA would urge the UK travel industry to continue to support the destination year-round,” said LATA CEO Tony Mason.
“In addition to the BA route, LATA airline members LATAM Airlines, Air Europa, Avianca, AeroMexico, Air France-KLM, Delta and United Airlines all offer convenient routes to Lima on a year-round basis.”
BA said its flights to Lima over the winter weren’t as full as it had hoped, so the service will be suspended from the end of October to March.
