BA to re-start Kuala Lumpur flights
British Airways will re-start direct flights from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur in summer 2015.
The airline last flew to the city in 2001 when it suspended services for commercial reasons.
The daily service from Terminal 5 launches on May 27 and will be operated by a four-cabin Boeing 777-200ER.
A spokesman said the airline had wanted to restart services to Kuala Lumpur for a long time and has been investigating the resumption of flights for about three years.
"However, we delayed our announcement out of respect for all of those who died and were affected by the tragic incidents involving flights MH17 and MH370," he said.
"We flew to Malaysia between 1933 and 2001 and suspended flights for commercial reasons. But we’re very pleased to be returning to Malaysia, and we have high expectations for the London-Kuala Lumpur route.
"We think the market is ready to accept another carrier on it. In Malaysia and across Southeast Asia, civil aviation is a growing industry and major economic contributor. We believe that once our services begin in 2015, we can play a role in offering Malaysian travellers greater connectivity and choice."
