Bali eyes sports tourism boost
Bali believes that building a sports stadium on the island would boost its chances of developing a sports tourism strategy.
Among the stadium’ supporters is governor Made Mangku Pastika, who told local media that a sports stadium in Bali is a "long-standing" desire of his government.
"The provincial government of Bali wants to develop several stadiums in Bali through new building and renovation programmes in order that Bali can become a sports tourism destination," the governor said.
A previous request for US$9 million in funding from Jakarta to build a stadium was knocked back by the central government, according to a report from Bali Update (www.balidiscovery.com).
