Balpa threatens strike over CityExpress
UK: Union gives BA 10 days to agree to talks
The pilots’ union Balpa has announced plans for a strike because of a disagreement over the re-structuring of the British Airways subsidiary CitiExpress.
The union has stated that it can no longer work with the management at CitiExpress, telling The Times: “This is not a pay issue – it is a relationship issue. The problems are now serious.”
As reported by News From Abroad in recent weeks, CitiExpress is having an overhaul with some 21 routes being cut. But the union believes the process has been mismanaged and is now calling for the BA chief executive Rod Eddington to intervene.
A statement from the union reads: “We give them 10 days to take positive action, which includes a meeting with Rod Eddington. Failing that, Balpa will have no choice but to consult members for industrial action.”
