Bangkok blast keeps pressure on security forces
The bomb blast in central Bangkok on Sunday which killed one person and injured 10 has dashed hopes for lifting the emergency decree in the capital.
The tourism sector has been urging the government to lift the decree, but there seems little hope of this happening while security concerns remain.
An emergency decree is in effect in 16 Thai provinces including Bangkok.
The political uncertainty has been keeping tourists away from Bangkok, with the business events sector being especially hard hit.
The blast at a bus stop in front of a Bangkok department store reinforced the government’s concern that the situation has not returned to normal in the capital and some provinces following May’s political violence.
The Bangkok Post reports extra security measures will soon be deployed in public places such as shopping areas, inter-provincial bus stations and the subway.
