Bangkok to get ‘six-star’ hotel in SE Asia’s tallest skyscraper
Thai capital Bangkok is to get a new downtown ‘six star’ hotel built in what will become South East Asia’s tallest skyscraper.
The 320,000-sqm ‘Rama IX Super Tower’ will measure 125 storeys tall and feature 90,000 sqm of office space and a 260-room luxury hotel.
It is being developed by real estate firm Grand Canal Land with a completion date set for 2019.
The building will also have an observation tower for tourists and a rooftop garden.
When completed it will dwarf South East Asia’s current tallest structure, the 88-floor Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
Planners said the building will have access to a six-lane private road have a direct MRT connection.
Grand Canal Land chairman Yothin Boondicharern said the tower will anchor the existing Grand Rama 9 complex which has mixed-use shopping, residential and office space.
The company gave no indication whether a hotel tenant has been secured yet.
The structure will be built according to platinum-level certification of the Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
