Bargains galore for World Cup accommodation
Hoteliers in Sydney have reduced their prices after over-estimating the depth of rugby fans’ pockets.
According to a report in today’s edition of The Times, hotel owners are slashing their prices by as much as 60% in an effort to offload rooms before the World Cup starts in the city at the weekend.
The newspaper quotes the online booking engine wotif.com, which reportedly has five-star accommodation with discounts of more than 33% for next week – including rooms at the Courtyard by Marriot, near the Olympic Stadium, where some of the games will be held, at GBP67 per night.
Graeme Wood, the founder of wotif.com, reportedly told the newspaper that tour operators had charged too much for World Cup “packages” and have handed back many unsold rooms to hotels. He added: “This is free enterprise in action. The coin has flipped over in favour of the fans.”
