Barrhead Travel has won two awards at the Scottish Family Business Awards in Glasgow.

The Large Scottish Family Business of the Year and Business Innovation honours were presented to the company at a bash in the city’s Grand Central Hotel.

An 18-month expansion strategy saw the group open 20 new stores across Scotland and the North of England as well as hiring 150 new staff.

Earlier this year, Barrhead rolled out its new trade focused sub-brand, Brilliant Travel, as well as completing its first multi-million pound acquisition, buying Falkirk-based cruise agency, The Cruise Specialists.

Barrhead Travel chief executive Sharon Munro – daughter of company founder and chairman, Bill Munro – said: "Our family spirit is very much at the heart of everything we do at Barrhead Travel.

"It’s wonderful to be recognised by the Scottish Family Business Awards and to take home two accolades is a great achievement. Our teams across the UK have worked incredibly hard throughout the last year and these awards are a magnificent accomplishment – it’s a testament to the family spirit we instil across all of our 55 locations."
