Barry Mayo moving on
Former CEO of Harvey Word Travel, Barry Mayo, said today he will not be taking up a consultancy role with S8 or Harvey World Travel.
Mr. Mayo said he felt it was time to move on seeking new challenges rather than look backwards and remain in the past.
“Following the takeover by S8 I was invited to join the board of S8 as an executive director which I declined and then was also asked if I would consider carrying on with them in a consulting role. I have given this serious consideration but I feel it is more appropriate to move on,” Mr. Mayo said.
“I have the utmost respect for Harvey World Travel’s staff and franchisees and I have been extremely fortunate to work with a great team of people. It would be wrong of me not to acknowledge how much I have enjoyed being part of the Harvey World Travel family, cherished the strength of relationships that evolved with many of the team and acknowledge the admiration I have for the dedication and professionalism of many key people both within the administration and the franchise network.
“I am proud of the fact that during our years together as a team we created a culture of continuous transformation and improvement thereby maximising the collective strength of the franchise network. This culture and unity between the franchise company and franchisees resulted in many unique and leading edge initiatives that gave a competitive advantage in that Harvey World Travel set the pace in adapting to changing market conditions far more quickly than its competitors.
“Significantly, among my proudest moments at Harvey World Travel was not a win over a competitor but a united act of compassion and generosity which illustrated what the Harvey World Travel family spirit is all about. This was when the franchise network elected to sponsor the administration cost of the John Fawcett Foundation in Bali as a demonstration of support for Bali in return for the contribution the island and its people had made to the success of the Australian travel industry in general and Harvey World Travel in particular.
“I hope that Harvey World Travel will continue and possibly expand on this sponsorship and that other travel organisations will be inspired to follow this lead and provide similar support. Bali and its people need the support even more now than was the case after the first bombings or at any other time in its history.”
Mr. Mayo said he has no specific plans at this stage.
