Battle for Boston heats up as Delta eyes JetBlue’s top spot
Delta Air Lines is taking aim at JetBlue’s dominance at Boston worth plans to increase its daily departures by more than 25%.
That would take it to more than 150 flights a day by next March, the carrier says.
Delta will add twice a day departures to Miami beginning in December and is expanding service to a number of sunshine destinations from Logan.
It is adding more flights to Orlando, Fort Myers, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Seasonal departures to Sarasota and New Orleans will also be increased.
JetBlue already serves every one of these destinations.
Delta already announced seasonal Boston service to Lisbon and Edinburgh starting later this month and extending summer flights to Dublin.
JetBlue is not standing still either.
It plans to launch landmark transatlantic flights to London in 2021.
It is also increasing frequencies on 12 established routes out of Boston including Chicago, Nashville, Detroit, Savannah and Orlando.
It has set a target of operating 200 daily departures from Boston Logan.
Like Delta, JetBlue hopes to induct new fuel-efficient Airbus A220 planes next year.
