Beachgoers warned after shark attack near Honolulu
Locals and tourists have been warned to show caution in the waters near Honolulu after a surfer was attacked by a shark.
John ‘Raps’ Denges, a 48-year old local resident, was seriously injured but is recovering in hospital.
The Honolulu Ocean safety team were patrolling the beach on Sunday as a precaution and it posted warning signs by the shoreline.
The beach where the attack happened does not normally have lifeguards although there were in attendance following the attack.
At nearby White Plains beach the 12th annual HIC/Quicksilver All-Military Surf Classic competition was halted and then canceled after a shark was spotted there.
