Birmingham Airport to scrap 100ml liquid rule next year
Birmingham Airport will be the next to ditch the 100ml liquid in hand luggage restriction.
The airport is installing next-gen CT scanning equipment for passenger screening next year.
That will enable it to drop the liquid restriction rules, as well as allowing travelers to leave laptops and other items in their bags.
A new limit of two litres of liquids will be in effect.
BHX hopes the high-resolution 3D scanning facilities will speed up security queues.
From June next year, new security provider, Smiths Detection will manage passenger checkpoints.
Birmingham Airport has a raft of new facilities being installed in the terminal next year.
It includes an automatic tray return system at passenger screening.
“Once operational , our new pre-flight screening area will enhance our already high standards of security,” said Stephen Barker, airport development and construction director.
“This improved efficiency will enable us to process customers quickly, especially at peak travel times.”
