Blow for Bali with Garuda chopping Australia Bali direct flights.
It appears that Garuda Indonesia is considering chopping almost all its direct flights from Australia to Bali and also possibly temporarily suspending services altogether from Brisbane, with only Perth escaping.
With announcements of recovery funds being allocated to marketing Bali in Australia, the announcement could significantly affect traffic to Bali from Australia, with virtually all flights in future operating via Jakarta.
It appears that the issues are the costs of operating two hubs in Indonesia, namely Bali and Jakarta and the slow recovery of business from Australia.
A spokesperson for Garuda in Australia confirmed the move was under consideration.
The suspension of Brisbane flights is imminent, taking place from November 19 until March 24 with a statement saying that it was part of a broader rescheduling of services in Asia and the South West Pacific.
