The body of a man who reportedly fell from a Carnival cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico has been recovered, said the cruise line.

The 54 year-old, who has not officially been named pending formal identification, fell overboard from the Carnival Triumph on Tuesday off the coast of Northern Mexico.

Onboard surveillance video footage confirmed the incident and a search and rescue operation took place with the Mexican Coast Guard.

The man’s body was discovered early Wednesday and has been taken ashore for identification in Mexico.

Carnival triumph is due to return to Galveston today.

Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen said the ship’s crew was notified immediately after the man went overboard.

“In the rare case that someone goes overboard we have very detailed procedures that we follow,” he said.

This latest incident comes days after a US student Cameron Smook fell overboard from the Carnival Glory.

The 21-year old has not yet been found after an unsuccessful three-day search by the US Coast Guard.
