Boeing finalizes jet order with Iran’s Aseman Airlines
Plane maker Boeing has finalized an earlier agreement to supply at least 30 new jets to Iran’s Aseman Airlines.
The airline also has an option to buy another 30 Boeing 737 MAX planes.
Initial reports from Iran state media said deliveries will begin in 2019 but airline spokesman Amir Reza Mostafavi said 2022 is more likely.
It is the second major deal Boeing has inked in the country after a multi-billion-dollar order recently signed by Iran Air
That was for 80 aircraft.
Mostafavi said: "We’re a commercial company like Boeing and operating in a commercial sphere not a political one."
A plane order of this size secures about 18,000 jobs which pits President Trump’s anti-Iran stance against the hard facts of more jobs for Americans.
Last week US lawmakers voted through the next step of a bill that would again impose sanctions on Iran.
The deal still has to be approved by the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
