Boeing launches the Dreamliner

Boeing has reportedly announced that it is to push ahead with plans for a new commercial airliner, already dubbed the “Dreamliner” among workers at the company. As reported by News From Abroad, Boeing’s great rival Airbus last month revealed that it’s 900-seater “superjumbo” will be flying within a few years, and has, over the last few years, overtaken Boeing in terms of turnover and orders. But, according to a report by The Independent’s transport editor Michael Harrison, Boeing made the announcement to thousands of workers at its Seattle plant on Monday. The new 250-seater 7E7 jet, which is planned to enter service in 2008, will reportedly be 20 per cent more efficient that existing planes of its size and will have a range of around 8,300 miles. Boeing reportedly believes the market for the 7E7 will be up to 3,000 aircraft over the next 20 years.
