Boeing sees major new demand for smaller planes

Friday, 18 Jul, 2006 0

US-based aircraft maker Boeing has upped its forecast, saying that world demand will hit 27,000 new aircraft in the next 20 years.

That would represent $2.6 trillion of aircraft sales and is a 5.8% higher number than previously forecast.

Asian markets are helping fuel demand.

Randy Baseler, the airline’s chief of marketing, told Bloomberg that the company’s strategy continues to stay away from the super-jumbo jets in favour of more fuel-efficient intermediate-sized planes.

“Passengers are bypassing mega-hub airports, which results in a decreased need for very large airplanes,” he said.

Mr Baseler said Boeing has no intentions of matching Airbus’s much larger A380.
