Bollywood to showcase Sydney to India and around the world
New South Wales Minister for Tourism, Matt Brown will host a special preview of the new Bollywood film Heyy Babyy tonight at the State Theatre in Sydney, with Mr Brown saying Sydney has a starring role in the film which will be seen by hundreds of millions of people in India and around the world.
“Heyy Babyy is the biggest Bollywood production shot in Australia and I am sure it will help to attract more people from India to visit NSW,” Mr Brown said.
“The film was shot in some of Sydney’s most famous locations such as the Sydney Opera House, Bondi Beach, Darling Harbour and the Rocks,” he said.
“India is the fastest growing market for travel to Australia.” “We expect growth of more than 18 per cent each year until 2016.” “Last year around 45,800 Indians visited NSW, spending $115 million.” Mr Brown said.
Heyy Babyy is based on the Hollywood film, Three Men and a Baby and features five of India’s most popular stars.
“The film will premiere in Mumbai on August 24 and local audiences can see it in Greater Union cinemas in Sydney and around Australia,” Mr Brown said.
“The State Government supported the production of the film, providing extensive location advice and production assistance to the film’s producers.
“This week, 23 representatives from Indian travel companies are in NSW to take part in a ‘Focus on India’ marketing program.”
Highlights of Focus on India include: a familiarisation tour to Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Port Stephens; and a workshop with 80 NSW tourism businesses at the Sydney Cricket Ground followed by a session in the nets with a couple of Australian cricketers.
