Bomb hoax alert at Stansted
A Spanish man is today being questioned by police after being arrested at Stansted airport on suspicion of claiming there was a bomb on board his flight. According to the online news service Ananova, the man is accused of making the threat as a Ryanair flight prepared to leave the airport bound for Reus, Spain, yesterday evening. There were 132 passengers on board the plane, which was immediately grounded and searched by police. Once the plane had been checked, passengers were allowed to re-board the aircraft. A spokesman for Essex police is quoted as saying: “The arrest followed reports from the crew of a Ryanair flight who stated that the man had made references to explosives as the flight prepared to take off. “The plane was taken to a safe position while officers investigated the threat. A 36-year-old man from Spain was later arrested and is currently in custody at Harlow police station.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad Ltd
