Booking.com has more non-hotel listings than Airbnb
Online travel giant Booking.com seems to be beating Airbnb at its own game.
It says it now has five million non-traditional accommodation listings, which is marginally more than the home sharing platform.
Parent Booking Holdings said the number of apartments and vacation homes grew by 27% to five million last year.
That is growing much faster than its traditional business of hotels, motels and resorts.
"We’ve been pushing hard to add as many amazing homes and apartments to our platform as possible in order to guarantee that we’re providing the choice and diversity our customers crave," said Olivier Gremillon, vice president at Booking.com.
"We know that travelers are passionate about exploring a huge variety of different stay experiences, including everything from apartments to houseboats. We’re definitely proud of this milestone."
In a Booking.com customer survey conducted last year, it found 30% said they want to stay in an apartment, aparthotel or condo in 2018, and in a separate study, 21% said they would contemplate listing their own home on an accommodation platform.
