Boris suggests UK-France Channel bridge
Boris Johnson has raised the idea of building a bridge across the Channel – and French President Emmanuel Macron is reported to like the idea.
The UK Foreign Secretary unveiled his plan yesterday at a UK-France summit held at Sandhurst military academy in Berkshire.
Sky News reports Boris said: "We need a new fixed link between the UK and France.
"It’s crazy that two of the biggest economies in the world are connected by one railway line when they are only 20 miles apart."
According to sources, Macron replied: "I agree. Let’s do it."
Boris later tweeted a picture of himself and Macron giving the thumbs up, along with the words: "En marche!"
His tweet continued: "Great meetings with French counterparts today."
Former UKIP leader and MEP Nigel Farage, who also has a talk show on London’s LBC radio, has called the bridge idea a ‘big waste of money’.
