Staff at two of Brazil’s leading carriers are threatening to strike over Christmas.
International airline Tam and low-cost carrier Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes may see services severely affected after an airline staff union threatened a walk-out starting today (Thursday, Dec 23).
Tam flies within Brazil, to Europe and to North and South America while Gol is a hugely successful budget carrier which models itself on Ryanair and has daily flight within South America and the Caribbean.
Brazil’s air staff union has been talking with management since the autumn in search of a pay rise of around 13%. No agreement has been reached.
Union president Selma Balbino told reporters: “War is war. We’re not concerned with strike law, since the only thing that matters to us now is to keep our dignity.”
