Brief outage grounds flights nationwide
Another system outage has briefly caused havoc with flight operations around the country.
The outage impacted multiple airlines early Monday, including Southwest, Delta, American Airlines, United Airlines, JetBlue and Alaska Air Group.
The technical issue related to the Aerodata planning weight and balance program, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
It caused early morning flights to be held at the gate and other on taxiways were forced to return to terminal buildings.
Airlines are now reporting operations slowly getting back to normal.
The outage is thought to have lasted less than one hour.
"A number of Southwest flights were temporarily delayed due to a nationwide technical issue. At this time, their flight operations are returning to normal schedules," Southwest said.
Still, it will likely have a rollover effect with some delays lingering through the morning.
Delta is also reporting business as usual.
"A brief third-party technology issue that prevented some Delta Connection flights from being dispatched on time this morning has been resolved," said spokesperson Savannah Huddleston, and the carrier doesn’t expect any cancelations as a result.
However it is advising travelers to check their flight’s status for any delays.
