Brighton Pier to be sold
Iconic Brighton Pier is to be sold for £18 million to a company led by former Pizza Express entrepreneur Luke Johnson.
The Eclectic Bar Group, which owns the upmarket Dirty Blonde and Lola Lo bars, has entered into a conditional agreement to buy the Grade II listed Brighton Marine and Pier Company.
It has not revealed what it intends to do with the pier, which first opened in 1899 and is home to various rides, bars and attractions.
Brighton Pier was previously on the market in 2011, but its owners the Noble Group withdrew it the following year.
Johnson said: "The pier is hugely popular with the British public and it occupies a special place as a landmark at the heart of Brighton.
"Brighton is one of the UK’s most popular visitor destinations, with over 10 million visitors per year, making it the most visited place in the South East."
