British Airways scraps another 10,000 summer flights
British Airways says it will trim an additional 10,000 short-haul flights over the summer.
That means nearly 30,000 flights will have been cut from BA’s schedule this year.
The cancellations are centred on London’s Heathrow, Gatwick and City airports.
“The whole aviation industry continues to face significant challenges and we’re completely focused on building resilience into our operation to give customers certainty,” BA said.
Overall, it amounts to about 13% of BA’s schedule this summer.
“It’s the right thing to do for our customers and our colleagues,” BA added.
“We can consolidate some of our quieter services so that we can protect as many of our holiday flights as possible.”
“We’re in touch to apologise and offer rebooking options for new flights.”
It was strongly criticised by Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel.
“BA has continued to promote and sell flights it could not fulfil, as thousands of customers have faced the chaos of cancellations,” Boland said.
Meanwhile the COO of KLM Rene de Groot is leaving the Dutch flag carrier to take up the same position at British Airways.
