British backpacker in hospital after stabbing
A British backpacker is in hospital in Australia after allegedly being stabbed repeatedly by her housemate in Sydney.
The 23-year-old woman allegedly fought back and stabbed the man who she says had tried to sexually assault her.
The man, a 27-year-old from Mexico, is under police guard in hospital.
Police claim that he forced his way into the woman’s room in the mid-afternoon and tried to assault her and when she resisted he returned with a knife and stabbed her. She fought back, stabbing him in return.
Police said they believed the pair were not well-known to each other but were sharing an inner-city boarding house.
The woman is expected to undergo surgery for her injuries.
