British tourist ‘beaten to death’ in Dubai
The British Embassy is investigating the death of a British tourist who died whilst in policy custody in Dubai.
Officials have confirmed that 39-year-old Lee Bradley Brown from Dagenham, who had been staying at the seven-star Burj Al Arab hotel, died in Bur Dubai police station after being arrested on April 6.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, the holidaymaker, who was accused of assault, intimidating behaviour and using abusive language, was beaten to death by officers.
The paper quoted a police source who said Mr Brown was left unconscious on the floor of a filthy cell after being badly beaten by a group of officers.
It is alleged that during his six days in prison he was denied food, water and access to a lawyer. His family in the UK were made aware of his plight when they received a call from an inmate.
The Mail quoted a British Embassy spokesman saying that the allegations were being taken very seriously and it was launching an investigation with the Dubai police.
