British tourist drowns on Caribbean island
A British holidaymaker who was found dead on the beach after a late-night swim allegedly drowned after being hit by a large wave.
Sian Marshall-Plewes was swimming close to the popular Sosua Beach in the Dominican Republic when she became separated from a male companion and got into difficulties, said local TV reports.
Civil Defence volunteers later discovered her body elsewhere on the beach, which is close to Puerto Plata.
The woman, believed to be from Lincolnshire, had been staying in an apartment in Calle Libre for a week.
Officers from the Deputy National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department are investigating.
