British tourist recovering after Grand Canyon helicopter crash
A British tourist who was badly injured in a helicopter crash in the Grand Canyon, which killed five other tourists, is now in a ‘fair’ condition at a Nevada hospital, authorities said.
Jennifer Barham, aged 29, had been in a critical condition since the sightseeing helicopter from Las Vegas went down on February 10, but a spokesman for the University Medical Centre of Southern Nevada said she had now improved.
However, the 42-year-old pilot, the only other survivor, remains in a critical condition.
Three other British tourists aboard the helicopter, which was on a sightseeing trip from Las Vegas, were killed on the day of the crash, while two others died in hospital later.
A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board has revealed the helicopter span round at least twice before crashing and bursting into flames, which suggests that the tail rotor was not operating properly.
