Brits plan summer exodus
The vast majority of British people plan an overseas holiday this summer, a new survey shows.
The poll found that 95% of Brits plan to go abroad this summer, with 65% saying sunbathing will be their principal holiday activity. More than half (55%) of British holidaymakers plan a beach holiday with 18% staying in a private villa and only 7% planning to stay in a theme park.
September emerged as the favourite month for holiday taking with 46% saying they will go away then, followed by July (46%) and August (44%).
Rising fuel costs are not expected to affect travel plans, according to 80% from Britain. But 27% of Americans say they will take fewer trips due to fuel costs.
More than a quarter of travellers from around the world intend to take more holiday time this summer than last and almost a third will be spending more in 2006.
The findings are part of an online summer travel survey covering 2,300 travellers worldwide conducted by global travel information website TripAdvisor.
