Independent agent Daniele Broccoli is the front runner to become the next ABTA chairman, a TravelMole poll reveals.
TravelMole’s Mole Poll is attracting around 100 votes a day with the latest update showing 65% in favour of Broccoli with 35% supporting Advantage Travel Centres’ chief executive John McEwan.
The findings came as another operator voiced his support for McEwan.
Laurence Hicks, managing director of Wendy Wu Tours, said he was supporting McEwan in his race for chairman of ABTA.
He said: "John has a broad experience of the industry: most of his time in retailing both for multiples and latterly with independent agents means he has a range of experience which enables him to see the bigger picture, address bigger issues, deal with influencers at all levels and bring people together to achieve consensus.
“John is committed to working on behalf of all ABTA members to address key issues including effective government lobbying, consumer protection and ATOL regulations."
McEwan and Broccoli, a current ABTA board member and managing director of Britaly Travel, are going head to head to become the new ABTA chairman in place of outgoing president Justin Fleming.
The closing date for the return of ballot papers is June 10.
