Buoyant end of year for trade
Operators and agents have reported buoyant end of season demand following a difficult summer of overcapacity and heavy discounting.
Co-op Travelcare general manager commercial Mike Beaumont said: “We’re doing well and September and October have been very strong. Since moving here (Staffordshire) I’ve realised there is a strong north/south divide. People in the south don’t realise how loyal customers in the north are to the Co-ops and bookings with us have been strong.”
A spokeswoman for Airtours said it had few late deals left this year. “We’ve managed our capacity sensibly this summer and although we’ve got a few allocated-on-arrival deals, we haven’t got much left for the rest of the season. Bookings have been strong.”
Specialists Sunvil Holidays and Tapestry Holidays both said summer had been very tough, but bookings picked up for September and October.
As expected at this time of year, there are some seven night packages on the market for as little as £99 per person.
Lastminute.com has self-catering deals to the Greek islands for £99 and all-inclusive October breaks from £199.
Thomson has seven night deals to Palma from £119 per person.
A spokesman for Thomson said: “We haven’t got much left.”
