Canada’s Porter Airlines again postpones restart of flights
Toronto based Porter Airlines has once more pushed back its intended restart.
It is now targeting 29 March to resume services, which would mark more than a year since it first suspended flights.
Since then the airline has repeatedly set a tentative date for resuming flights but has been forced to postpone it.
Porter’s president and CEO Michael Deluce says with a vaccine now being rolled out, it has more confidence in setting a date for a restart.
The airline will assess how the vaccine impacts travel demand over the coming months and will likely announce an update this winter ‘based on the status of the pandemic and the evolution of government measures that may promote greater freedom to travel.’
"With the introduction of vaccines, we are more optimistic about determining a date in the near term to reintroduce flights than at any point since the pandemic began," Deluce said in a release.
The airline, which is based at Billy Bishop Airport, halted all flight operations on 21 March 2020.
As well as regional domestic services, Porter flies to Newark, Chicago Midway, Boston, and Washington Dulles.
