Cancun tops London as holiday destination

It was not London or Jamaica but, perhaps surprisingly, Cancun which emerged as one of the top international destinations in some recent reports.

Travelocity had Cancun first among cities, while Orbitz placed it second.

“Cancun is the ideal location for the holidays,” said Arturo Escaip Manzur, General Director of the Cancun Convention and Visitors’ Bureau.

Orbitz also places the destination in the top five for international holiday travel, listing Cancun in the number two spot, according to booking statistics for December and early January.

A research study based on air-ticket sales at Orbitz.com demonstrates that Cancun ranks higher than Mexico City, London, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for this year’s holiday travel season.

“We are thrilled to see Cancun top Travelocity and Orbitz’s lists for international holiday travel,” notes Mr Manzur. He added:

“These reports represent great success in our continued development of Cancun as a rich and diverse travel destination.”

Cancun is located on the northeastern tip of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, bordered by the Caribbean Sea and the tranquil Nichupte Lagoon. The destination is renowned for its 16-mile stretch of white sandy beaches and proximity to historic Mayan archeological sites.
