Carlson Hotels eying 1,000 locations

Carlson Hotels Worldwide announced it added 78 hotels and resorts to its five-brand portfolio in 2006, and it has plans to continue expanding in 2007.

Jay Witzel, president and CEO of Carlson Hotels Worldwide, said in a statement that the company is accelerating momentum in 2007 to grow toward 1,000 locations.

The company ended the year with 938 hotels operating in 70 countries. Its brands include Regent Hotels & Resorts, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson and Park Inn.

Carlson Hotels Worldwide is a division of Minnetonka-based Carlson Cos. and provides corporate solutions and consumer services in the marketing, travel and hospitality industries.

The company is the second-largest private company in Minnesota, with revenue of $34.4 billion in 2005, including franchise operations. The company’s various brands employ more than 170,000 people in more than 150 countries.
