Carnival brands launching first live HDTV at sea
Carnival Corp has announced the launch of the first live high-definition television service at sea, which will be screened on ships in its P&O Cruises and Cunard brands.
The line partnered with MTN Communications, which provides communications for the maritime and offshore oil and gas industry.
The result is the start of IMG’s Sport 24 Channel in HD — the first 24/7 sports channel specifically for the cruise industry, MTN said.
“As we transformed the technology and ambience in our common areas, theaters and cabins, we evolved from small to large screens, so our requirement for HD became paramount,” said Graham Douglas, media and communications manager for P&O Cruises and Cunard.
“We are so pleased with the service that we just used it on all our ships to broadcast the naming ceremony for our new build, Britannia. MTN-TV HD delivers an amazing viewing experience onboard.”
The new HDTV channel will screen English Premier League soccer, Formula 1 racing, US open tennis, Wimbledon and the Masters.
MTN broadcasts 11 channels of news, sports, entertainment and special events
