Carnival Fantasy still awaiting reopening of Mobile cruise port
After Hurricane Nate made landfall twice this weekend, the gulf port of Mobile remains closed to cruise traffic.
The Carnival Fantasy remains at sea, awaiting a US Coast Guard all-clear to reopen the cruise terminal, which may come later today.
Fantasy’s next scheduled voyages will be shortened, the line said.
"Guests who sail on modified voyages will receive a one day pro-rated refund equal to one day of their cruise fare. Those who opt to cancel can do so and receive a future cruise credit equal to their cruise fare," Carnival said in a statement.
The Port of Mobile had closed Saturday, with flooding seen in the city.
The Coast Guard also said the ports of Gulfport and Pascagoula, Pensacola remain closed for the time being but the Port of New Orleans has already reopened.
The Carnival Dream’s scheduled six-day cruise calling at Grand Cayman and Cozumel is expected to depart as normal.
The hurricane made landfall again at Biloxi, Mississippi, as a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph.
Several Gulf Coast casinos there were closed overnight Saturday and suffered flooding.
By Sunday evening Nate left about 60,000 homes without power.
Nate had forced changes to 11 Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruises voyages since late last week.
