Carnival Freedom offering teen DJ classes
Playing around on the decks is nothing new on a cruise ship but Carnival Freedom is giving it a whole new meaning with shipboard DJ classes for teens.
The cruise line has teamed up with Miami DJ Irie for a DJ academy at sea called called Spin U for teens aged 15-17.
Part of Carnival’s Club O2 teen program, kids will be instructed in how to operate the latest mixing and sound equipment, mix songs of all genres, pump up a crowd, and even how to cultivate the right DJ ‘attitude.’
Introductory 30-minute sessions are free and a second 45-minute class covering more comprehensive skills in mixing and scratching costs $20.
A further advanced DJ Master program of three one-hour classes is $99.
DJ Master students will compete in a ‘battle of the beats’ and the winner gets the chance to entertain guests poolside on Lido Deck.
The cruise line said Carnival’s shipboard DJs will be available for one-on-one sessions with budding DJs.
Spin U is now being trialed on Fort Lauderdale-based Carnival Freedom with plans to roll out it on all ships in 2015.
