Carnival introduces smoking ban
Carnival has followed the majority of other cruise lines in introducing a smoking ban on cabin balconies.
"In response to the preferences of a majority of our guests, the balcony smoking ban comes into effect on October 9," it said.
Smoking inside rooms is already banned, but smokers will still be able to get a nicotine fix in designated areas on open decks, in night clubs and in certain areas of casino bars.
Passengers who break the new rule be required to pay a $250 cleaning fee.
With this change, Norwegian Cruise Line and Holland America Line are the only mainstream cruise lines that still permit smoking on cabin balconies.
A ban on smoking on balconies was introduced by Disney last November, Royal Caribbean introduced a ban in January, P&O followed in March and Cunard in April.
Celebrity, Princess, Oceania and Crystal already banned smoking on balconies.
