Carnival v. Charleston in SC Supreme Court today
Carnival Cruise Lines is in court today, defending its right to operate in Charleston, SC.
The case begins this morning in the South Carolina Supreme Court, where the Preservation Society of Charleston and several other civic groups filed a complaint claiming the cruise ships violate public nuisance and zoning rules.
The dispute between Carnival and Charleston heated up in 2010, when Carnival based the Fantasy near the City Market.
Neighborhood groups also are suing to block a new $35 million cruise terminal, claiming it will bring congestion and fumes to the historic town.
