Carriers return to Hong Kong
Gulf Air is the latest airline to announce it has resumed flights to Hong Kong.
The carrier relaunched flights between Bahrain and Hong Kong, via Bangkok on 1 July. The move follows the decision by the Ministry of Health in Bahrain to lift travel restrictions to the region.
Other carriers that are returning to Hong Kong include Lufthansa, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic.
As of 1 July, Lufthansa upped Hong Kong flights from three a week to daily. Following advice from the World Health Organisation, the German carrier also increased services to Beijing from three a week to five a week – this will go to daily from 1 August.
During the SARS outbreak, BA cut its flights to one a day, but this went back up to two a day on 23 June. Virgin Atlantic also cut flights – on an ad hoc basis – to Hong Kong during the outbreak. The carrier cut two flights a week on average during the outbreak, but returned to normal once daily services at the beginning of June.
