Catalonia Royal Bavaro: Environmental Care In The Caribbean
Catalonia Royal Bavaro is an exclusive, adults-only resort located in Playas de Bavaro (Punta Cana), one of the best beach areas in the Dominican Republic. The Caribbean island is home to tropical forests, mountains, waterfalls and varied vegetation. The beauty of the country is protected in the form of 30 national parks, reserves and marine sanctuaries. It is estimated that nearly six million tourists visited the Dominican Republic in 2016 generating more than six billion euros.
Catalonia Royal Bavaro, now recertified by Green Globe for a second year, is committed to maintaining a healthy relationship with the surrounding natural ecosystems.
A Green Team comprised of managerial and operations staff are responsible for maintaining the property’s sustainability policy. Energy, water and waste initiatives are in place to ensure compliance standards are met. A green purchasing policy is also part of the hotel’s eco-friendly efforts to reduce the property’s impact on the environment.
Catalonia Royal Bavaro has actively participated in coral restoration projects. Small reproductive coral communities have been planted in an effort to restore the most endangered species in the world – the Staghorn Coral. In addition, volunteers take part in beach clean-ups by collecting and sorting garbage. This has resulted in the reduction of waste pollution and raises environmental awareness about the benefits of keeping beaches clean.
