Cathay Pacific and Qantas agree new codeshare partnership
Cathay Pacific and Qantas have agreed a new codeshare partnership, offering customers of both carriers easier onward connections and frequent flyer benefits.
Cathay Pacific customer will get access to 13 connecting routes on Qantas’ domestic network in Australia on a single reservation.
These include Adelaide-Melbourne, Alice Springs-Sydney and Brisbane-Cairns.
Qantas will also add its code to Cathay Pacific’s flights from Hong Kong to Perth and Cairns.
Also included in the codeshare pact are select Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon short haul flights out of Hong Kong which include services to 10 cities in India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
"This new cooperation enables us to strengthen our connectivity across our Southwest Pacific network as well as grow the oneworld alliance," said Cathay Pacific chief customer and commercial officer, Paul Loo.
"Australia has been a key destination for Cathay Pacific ever since we launched our first commercial operations to the country nearly half a century ago."
There will be more options to earn frequent flyer points through their respective loyalty programmes, the airlines said.
Qantas International CEO Alison Webster said: "This new codeshare partnership also forms part of our growth strategy for the broader Asia region, with strong demand for travel between Australia and Asia. It’s good news for Qantas customers who will have more travel options."
