CDC offers guidance for healthy business travel overseas
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has launched a resource aimed at increasing awareness of international health hazards and better prepare travelers for business trips overseas.
The CDC Foundation has rolled out Business Pulse: Travelers’ Health, which offers guidelines, health tips and statistics related to overseas travel to help protect travelers against infectious diseases, personal health issues, work related stress, jetlag and environmental concerns while on the road.
It highlights that measles outbreaks are the highest level for 20 years, in part due to unvaccinated travelers returning to the US.
Advice is also offered for avoiding MERS and the mosquito-borne chikungunya virus, prevalent in the Gulf and Caribbean respectively.
There is even a link to the "Can I Eat This?’ mobile app which recommends what and what not to eat in certain countries around the world.
Other information includes a guide on selecting appropriate travel insurance, and infographics on World Cup travel in Brazil, international road safety and the MERS virus.
"We encourage all travelers to prepare before they head abroad and educate themselves to help ensure safe, healthy travel," said CDC Director Tom Frieden.
The CDC Foundation is the non-profit division of the CDC which works with private-sector companies and organizations to secure funding and develop pilot public health projects.
